Ultrasonographic Finding of Scrotal Disease

Abstract
Recently ultrasound study has been most useful modality for diagnosis of scrotal diseases, which is able to determine the nature, anatomic extent of the lesion, and possible to differential diagnosis of the scrotal diseases. The ultrasonographic
findings of scrotal diseases were analysed in 135 patients, which were confirmed surgicopathologically at Seoul Red Cross Hospital from July 1986 to Dec. 1992.
@ES The results were as follows.
@EN 1) Most prevalent age group is 21~29 yrs old age with high frequency of inflammatory or traumatic disease, and then below 10 yrs, 11~20 yrs old age groups in orders.
2) Most prevalent disease is inflammation and then trauma, cryptorchism, hydrocele, mass etc. in frequency order.
3) The accuracy of ultrasound study in scrotal disease is 90.4% in total case, and 100% in hydrocele, cryptorchism, varicocele case, 91.7% in inflammatory lesion, 88.9% in trauma, 81.2% in mass, and 63.6% in scrotal torsion.
4) The ultrasound is first choice of study for diagnosis of scrotal disease, and useful to determine the cystic or solid nature, anatomic extent of the lesion. However it is hard differentiate the acute scrotal diseases, such as inflammation and
torsion. Combined scintigraphic study will be helpful for the accurate diagnosis and adequate therapy of scrotal diseases.
